Much of Hemel Hempstead dates back to the mid-20th century, when the government designated the area as part of its 'new towns' plan to house residents and industry displaced from London as a result of the Blitz.
To this day, the original part of Hemel Hempstead is known as the Old Town. Centred on the charming High Street, the Old Town is packed full of characterful pubs, diverse boutiques, and a range of restaurants - from Moroccan and Thai to Greek and Italian - catering to every taste.
